Landscaping and Groundskeeper Workers
Job Purpose:
Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking.
Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities:
- Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain-saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
- Mow and edge property using power mowers and edgers.
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, and parking lots, and spread salt in those areas.
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes.
- Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
- Gather and remove litter.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, veteran sitting areas, and other grounds features.
- Assure lawns are watered.
- Trim and pick flowers, and clean flower beds.
- Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
- Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers and foliage.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Equipment Selection – Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

Job Purpose:
Coordinate, supervise and participate in work activities of Janitorial and grounds maintenance at assigned rest area.
Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities:
- Direct activities for stopping the spread of infections.
- Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets contract specifications and established standards.
- Plan and present employee work schedule to corporate office.
- Perform or assist with cleaning duties as necessary.
- Perform or assist with maintenance duties as necessary.
- Investigate complaints about safety, service, or cleanliness of property.
- Take corrective action including documenting occurrence in detail.
- Report to corporate office.
- See that attendant schedule is followed and each shift is filled. If someone calls in, find another person to work that shift.
- Coordinate with corporate the hiring, promotion, or dismissal of employees.
- Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
- Check facility to ensure that it is in working order.
- Use past inspection report(s) to inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facility to determine the type of work required.
- Coordinate with safety department to always keep up to date SDS books on site.
- Instruct staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of equipment.
- Organize and lead safety meeting with staff. Report information to Safety Director.
- Issue supplies and equipment to workers.
- Forecast necessary levels of staffing and stock at different times to facilitate effective scheduling and ordering.
- Inventory stock to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts.
- Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
- Confer with staff and management to resolve performance and personnel problems.
- Schedule larger projects under the advice of Task Manager, such as painting larger area, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
- Order supplies using provided supply order form.
- Recommend changes that could improve service and increase operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education:
1+ years’ experience supervising multiple persons
